The school teacher identified as one Mrs Enechi Chinyere was waylaid by gunmen along with others and terrorised.

She was over the weekend abducted along the lonely Nsukka/Adani highway in Uzo-Uwani local government area, Enugu state while returning from the annual August meeting of the Christian Women Organisation (CWO) of the catholic faithfuls.

According to Vanguard, Mrs Enechi Chinyere, a secondary school teacher was returning from the recent troubled Nimbo community by the fulani herdsmen where over 13 people were killed at farmlands, when two unidentified gun men on a self-made road block, accosted her with her husband and one other occupant of the Toyota Camry car, held them on gun point and demanded to be given the money she collected from the CWO annual meeting of Nimbo community.

Her husband, Mr Enechi Osmond, who gave an eye witness account of the incident, stated that his wife had gone for the August meeting while himself went for a different meeting in the community and both winded up the meetings and returning in company of one other colleague of his wife.

Osmond narrated that “on reaching Nkpologwu/Obimo axis of the road, one man came unmasked, moved straight to my wife on steering, pulled a gun and demanded for the money she collected from the CWO meeting.

“We were both confussed while another one came out with a gun and shouted at us to bring the money or face instant death. They collected our handsets and the purse of my wife containing N30,000 and her colleague that had N20,00 cash on her. They  dragged my wife along with them into the bush where she was held captive for three days demanding for ransome to be paid before she could be released..

“I stood at the spot with my wife’s colleague helpless and confussed till some passers-by came to our rescue, raised alarm and immediately contacted the traditional rulers of Nimbo, Nkpologwu and Akpugo Ezedike communities together with the transition committee chairman of Uzo-Uwani LGA, Col. Onwubuya, who mobilised various community neighbourhood watch that gave the kidnappers no breeding space, entered the forest in their numbers the same hour and passed the night in the bush in search of my wife.

“The kidnappers did not mask up, their faces were of the Fulani, they speak Hausa language more than the pigeon English but I cannot say who they are,” he narrated.

Both the Area commander, Nsukka police command, DPO Adani police division, despatched men to various places within and around the community, while the parish priest of St. Mary’s parish, Nimbo and the parish priest of St. Joseph Catholic church, Nsukka, swung into action, split into groups and pairs took up mega phones announcing the kidnap of the teacher.

The council chairman Col Onwubuya pushed the fortified local vigilante group in company of armed police men to make sure the woman was released without any ransome being paid.

The kidnappers, however, released the woman in the early hours of Tuesday when preasure was too much in search of the teacher.

The Area commander Nsukka when contacted said that no ransome was paid to release the school teacher abducted last Saturday evening around 6pm
